This manual was created specifically to cover four-cylinder models built for sale in the United States and Canada. Information in this manual applies to all Fox models unless particular model names or other characteristics are used to denote differences.
Some of the information in this manual applies only to cars of a particular model year or range of years. For example, "1990 m.y." refers to the 1990 model year. The model year does not necessarily match the calencler year in which the car was manufactured or sold, To be sure of the model year of a particular car, check the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the car. Characters not relevant to parts or service may be represented by spaces, such as 30H005670.
Your Volkswagen's VIN can be found on a plate mounted on the top of the instrument panel, on the driver's side where the number can be seen through the windshield, and on an identification label in the luggage compartment. The 1Oth character is the model year code.
